A chapter written by Claudio Mochi and Isabella Cassina (Wiley, 2024)

A Process-Oriented and Multilayered Approach to the Global Impacts of Trauma

ABSTRACT: "Each person and context is unique just as trauma can have various origins, manifest itself in different ways and at different times. Sometimes trauma is caused by what others do not see, other times people do not see the trauma and confuse it with something else. Certain situations, however, are objectively difficult for all individuals as is universal the need to feel safe to be able to develop awareness, acquire and strengthen capabilities, and actively manage one’s own life.

The chapter focuses on those contexts in which the potential for trauma is considerable and complex conditions undermine the individual’s and the entire community’s feeling of safety. The authors introduce considerations and guidelines to develop or consolidate the reader’s understanding of these types of contexts and to conceptualise a process-oriented and multilayered intervention with the aim of coping with the present while building for the future".
